“Orto Errante”-Wandering Garden of Italy's Occupation

This is a quick video of "Orto Errante" or, Wandering Garden from the Italian Occupation.  I hope this gives all Occupiers hope. We are part of a global awakening!  Thank you for this garden Italy!

OSD Gardens-Pumpkin Compost and Planting

Occupy San Diego Garden is surviving thanks to the volunteer work being done on all levels.  Support is coming in the form of coffee grinds, oyster shells and pumpkins for composting, buckets for saving food committee left-overs, and occupy labor parties planting and designing future beds.  As you can see in the video, we have room to grow!

OSD Garden Committee has put a call out to San Diego's  99% asking for a county-wide planting on all levels.  This means you.  Start planting seeds indoors now for future expansion.  Once sprouted, if you don't have room, or you do not have a green thumb, the garden committee will accept them and transplant them for you.

First Days of Occupy Gardens at City College

Here is a quick video documenting  the beginning of Occupy Gardens here in San Diego.  

Updates/Requests/Information:  This week we planted broccoli, cilantro, mixed greens, and a tomato plant brought up from the Civic center.  Our compost pile is filled with Halloween pumpkins, hay and turned over dirt, leaves and brush.  We are networking with local farms to organize for a thanksgiving day meal.  If you can contribute please leave a comment on this post.  As always, please plant seeds indoors wherever you are and bring future transplants to the Civic Center.  We will find them homes.

Occupy San Diego Gardening Committee

It's been a journey since day 1 of Occupy San Diego, but OSD Gardens survived and is thriving despite police raids, marches, and all other kinds of disturbances. We planted these seeds on Oct 7th, the first night of our urban camping protest. The seeds sprouted a week later on the night of the first police raid, and we had to move them to my front yard for a few days until I could find a new home for them. Luckily, the gardeners at City College, some of whom are Occupiers, donated a space in their newly expanded gardens for OSD to grow edible plants!

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to OSD's gardening effort. The response has beed positive and widespread. I encourage you all to plants seeds at home and bring the transplants to the garden. Soon we will have a meal using the veggies we've grown!

Saturday-12 noon-teach-in by Elle of Suzie's Gardens-focus on mobile gardening systems.
